CEO

Gary Davis

With 10 years’ worth of sector experience Gary has advised multi-national companies across many industry sectors, including oil and gas, petrochemicals, aviation, public transport, finance, and professional services. Gary has also been involved in the design of industry standards having advised on the development of the PAS2050 product standard, the Carbon Trust Standard and has been on UK Government working groups for biofuel greenhouse gas accounting.

Gary co-founded Ecometrica in 2008 and, as well as continuing to fulfil a technical role within the greenhouse gas accounting team, Gary serves as a main board director and is part of the commercial team behind Ecometrica’s data and software products.

Gary has a first class BSc (Hons) in Geosciences from the University of Edinburgh and was winner of the Royal Geographical Society’s Alfred Steers prize in 2003.

Dr. Richard Tipper FRSA

Richard is an innovator and champion of evidence-based environmental action. He has worked as an adviser on climate change issues for many government, business and international organisations.

After studying Agricultural Science (Edinburgh University) Richard worked in Chiapas, Mexico as an advisor to farmers’ organisations. He went on to take an MSc in Technology Management, then doctoral research on the economics of contemporary Mayan farmers. Following his PhD (Stirling University), in 1994, he obtained research funding to develop systems for delivering payments for ecosystem services to communities and smallholder farmers (Plan Vivo System). While researching he obtained commercial investment to put theory into practice leading to projects in Mexico, India, Uganda and Mozambique.

With commercial interest growing in this area Richard founded the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Management (ECCM), and built a team of experts on carbon accounting, providing consulting and advisory services. While at ECCM Richard was appointed to the UK Roster of Experts on Climate Change and was Lead Author on two IPCC reports. In 2007 his work on the IPCC was recognised as a contribution to the Nobel Peace Prize. Richard also advised on numerous standards, protocols and methodologies for accounting for greenhouse gas emissions, including the WBCSD-WRI GHG Protocol, European standards for biofuels and PAS 2060.

He is currently on the expert evaluation team of Norway’s international climate and forests initiative.

Chief Product Officer

Bertrand Revenaz

Before joining Ecometrica, Bertrand headed up Camco’s greenhouse gas assessment services in North America. In that capacity he has worked with companies in the financial, energy, agricultural, and publishing sectors on greenhouse gas assessments and management.

Bertrand also worked for the World Bank on sustainable development in Eastern Europe, focusing on the development of IT systems to improve environmental decision making.

He graduated with a Master’s degree in Atmospheric Sciences (with a focus on Climate Change) from McGill University. In addition, Bertrand spent a number of years working for the Corporate Executive Board advising Fortune 500 corporations on key management best practices in dealing with emerging business issues.

Chief Operations Officer, North America

Vanessa Boudreau-Sannier

Vanessa has 8 years of international experience in the sustainability sector spawning research, consulting, and program evaluation, having worked on issues of governance, environmental management, certification and GHG accounting and reporting.

Vanessa began at Ecometrica as a climate change analyst, conducting assessments and providing training to clients, and being heavily involved in business development activities. She also played a key role in the development of our sustainability accounting and reporting tool, ensuring its alignment with best practice standards and overseeing the development and maintenance of its extensive database.

As Ecometrica’s COO, North America since 2012, she oversees the overall operations and development of the North American branch and commercial relations, and manages our Montreal-based greenhouse gas (GHG) team of experts. She has also been contributing to industry standards and protocols development, working on ISO climate change standards, amongst others.

Prior to joining Ecometrica, Vanessa worked in the communications domain in Canada and the UK, and as an environmental researcher in the Netherlands and South Africa, where she focused on environmental management initiatives focusing on certification and governance issues in a supply chain context.

Vanessa holds an MSc in Sustainable Development, Environmental Policy and Management from Utrecht University, the Netherlands.

Chief Operations Officer, North America

Vanessa Boudreau-Sannier

Chief Financial Officer

Adrian Smith

Adrian is a corporate financier with over 20 years of early stage private equity experience. He studied Mechanical Engineering Science for his first degree at Salford University, then trained as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte in the late 1980s. He gained an MSc in Investment and Finance at the University of Edinburgh in 2008, specialising in modelling event driven investment strategies. He now researches into event driven market neutral hedge fund strategies and advises fund managers on models to extract value from those phenomena. He manages his own seed hedge fund derived from his 2006 research.

Adrian previously ran and directed the Edinburgh Pre-incubator Scheme (EPIS) at the University of Edinburgh from 2003 to 2010 which allowed him to support the creation of over 60 knowledge-rich start up companies, of which Ecometrica was one. He joined the company as CFO on retirement from the University in 2010 and manages financial strategy and investor relations.

He recently contributed to the Royal Society of Edinburgh review into technology stimulating the Scottish economy and guest lectures on innovation exploitation and company funding. He is a keen rider and enthusiastic polo player
