Ecometrica Platform triumphs at Environmental Leader Awards for the second year running

Ecometrica has won the prestigious global Environmental Leader Product of the Year Award for the second consecutive year, for its end-to-end sustainability and earth observation platform, which helps businesses and governments to easily map, track and report environmental impacts.

In what has been a landmark 12 months for Ecometrica, the Environmental Leader award follows the news that we have been named on the prestigious Deloitte 2016 Technology Fast 500™ Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) list, and in the Financial Times FT1000 of the fastest growing companies in Europe, after a year of rapid growth and important developments.

Underlining its position in sustainability reporting, the judges of the 2017 Environmental Leader Product & Project Awards said that the Ecometrica Platform “pulls together a variety of issues that interplay for sustainability. The audit component is very interesting and a differentiator. The variety of industries this can be applicable to is of value – from agriculture to high tech. Seems to use a unique approach to pulling relevant content in to holistically show issue/impacts/data.”

In its fifth year, the Environmental Leader Product & Project Awards recognise excellence in products and services that provide companies with energy and environmental benefits, or in corporate projects that improved environmental, sustainability or energy management and increased the bottom line.

Combining geospatial data from earth observation satellites with information gathered on the ground, the Ecometrica Platform allows detailed maps to be created, which enables businesses to track changes to forests, crops or even water and soil content over time. Ecometrica recently spearheaded the co-ordination of an international programme to add space-based Lidar, using light from lasers, to the data sources available to scientists, in a venture backed by NASA, and is currently helping six countries to monitor and protect tropical forests in a UK Space Agency project called “Forests 2020”.

The judges at the Environmental Leader Awards also praised the audit-ready nature of the platform and noted that progressive companies are already using such tools to understand, manage and report on their environmental impact.

The judges said the Platform has “great scope, big-picture applications, audit-ready, great numbers, solid legitimacy.”

“With a highly respected (and critical) judging panel and a strict set of judging criteria, entrants faced an extremely high bar for the level of product or project to qualify for an award,” says Tim Hermes, publisher of Environmental Leader parent company, Business Sector Media: “Those who entered needed to bring their A-game to get even a sniff of award-nirvana. And they delivered.”

Dr Richard Tipper, chairman of Ecometrica, said: “Although the impact of man-made climate change and deforestation are generally understood, the next stage is to quantify and map in real-time what is happening at a local level. This is key to the effective allocation of resources to conservation. We are proud to lead the way towards reversing environmental degradation by helping a wide variety of organisations to do that, and are delighted that our platform has been recognised as a world-beater at the Environmental Leader Awards.

“By bringing together sustainability, environment, risk and business management and reporting with geospatial intelligence and mapping applications, the Ecometrica Platform allows businesses, governments and organisations to make smarter decisions and build long-term value.”
