Ecometrica secures milestone 200th client as National Express streamlines emissions accounting

Ecometrica has secured its 200th client for Ecometrica Sustainability, an industry-accredited cloud-based greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting platform, launched 18 months ago.

National Express, the public transport provider, has implemented Ecometrica Sustainability across its UK divisions, in a move to more accurately account for and manage the group’s emissions. The programme is set to be rolled out to its operations in Spain and the iconic US yellow school bus franchise, later this year.

Gary Davis, co-founder and operations director of Ecometrica, said: “Public transport has a key strategic role to play in tackling climate change. However, organisations are up against a multitude of challenges when measuring emissions and, in particular, the vast and constantly changing data requirements to calculate Kyoto GHGs.

“National Express recognises these issues and the importance of understanding its own environmental impact.

“Ecometrica has a clear focus on developing flexible and platform-independent solutions around a web-based model and this vote of confidence from National Express clearly recognises our capabilities across both cloud and carbon accounting development.”

Stuart Parker, Group Property & Environment Director, National Express Group, said: “We have a long-term strategic commitment to report on our environmental performance. However, we have found that accounting for emissions using a spreadsheet-based system has become increasingly unwieldy and time-consuming. Having completed an extensive review, we are confident Ecometrica Sustainability will resolve these challenges and provide easy and cost-effective access to the right data and results.”

Edinburgh-headquartered Ecometrica, which also has a North American base in Montréal, has developed a multi-faceted team of specialists in climate change policy, web-based greenhouse gas accounting and ecosystem assessment services. Launched in 2008, the company works with organisations across a wide range of industry sectors.

The landmark win follows the announcement earlier this year that Ecometrica has earned a place on the UK Government’s G-Cloud services procurement framework, recognising the company’s expertise in the design and supply of software as a service (SaaS) solutions. This project is set to smooth the collaboration between suppliers and government through the development of a marketplace, coined the Government Application Store.
